Breeding Röros Cows

At the foot of Gloføken, overlooking Langsjøen, lies Johnsgård. Here, Olai runs a traditional family farm specializing in breeding the unique Norwegian breed Rörosko. This breed is particularly well-suited to the mountains and valleys of the highland region.

At Johnsgård, animal welfare is a central part of the philosophy. In the summers, the cows can roam in the forest; in the winter, they can choose whether to be outside or inside the barn. A good meal starts with top-quality ingredients. Olai believes that allowing the cows to be outside and live a natural life year-round contributes to the excellent taste and tenderness of the meat.

Johnsgård produces various meat products available in stores and restaurants in both Trysil and Engerdal.
