Processing of Whitefish, Aquavit, Hotel, and Restaurant

On the southern shore of the mighty mountain lake Femund, you will find Femund National Park Hotel/Femund Fish, which processes whitefish into various fillets and whitefish roe. The business is run by Björn and Mali, who also manage the hotel and restaurant in Elgå, where you can taste their products. Fishing occurs during an intense period in the fall when experienced fishermen set out early in the morning to fish with nets in this large cold lake, Norway’s third-largest. Femund was one of the last lakes to become ice-free after the retreat of the ice age, and it rests securely between two national parks. When the fishing boats return to shore later in the day, several more hours of work await in the cleaning facility for the skilled fishermen. Björn has also developed his own aquavit – Femund Aquavit. They also produce their beer and mead. Femund Fish sells its fish products to restaurants and shops, and its aquavit can be found at Vinmonopolet.
