Reindeer Products and Experiences

On the mountain slopes and in the forests around the Idre area, reindeer graze through the eight Sami seasons of the year. Mattias and his family are one of the four families operating in Idre Sami village, Sweden’s southernmost Sami village. He runs the reindeer slaughterhouse in Foskros, north of Idre, where reindeer from Idre Sami village and the surrounding Sami villages in Härjedalen are slaughtered. Today, there are about 2,700 reindeer in the Idre area. Reindeer meat is lean, containing only 1-4% fat.

Mattias is also passionate about processing. He takes pride in utilizing reindeer meat and everything that grows in nature, participating in every step of the meat processing journey, from mountaintop to plate. Mattias follows the process from reindeer herder, slaughterer, to preparing the food served to visitors. In 2022, Mattias was named New Entrepreneur of the Year in Älvdalen municipality.
